Rock ‘n’ Roll hair styles

Musicians and singers, like a lot of artists, are not known for their conventional hairstyles. For a very long time, they have been known for their opposition to social conventions. From the extravagant David Bowie to the provocative Miley Cyrus via the inevitable hairstyle weirdoes such as Lady Gaga, the music industry has always been punctuated by colorful characters.

Artists’ original style (and haircut) used to be their way to say “NO!” to conformism and to stand out from the herd of sheep. But, today these capillary phenomena are mostly used as a marketing tool. Attracting the attention of medias and consumers with a shocking (or a least recognizable) hairstyle helps boosting CD’s sales. We all remember the strange bold haircut of Britney Spears a few years ago. The musical industry is such competitive that singers and musicians do everything they can to advertise. Good or bad advertising, it doesn't matter as long as they make the buzz and the press speaks about them.

With the development of the internet and the impact of social media buzzes, artists go further and further in terms of hairstyle to mark consumers’ mind. We are quite far from the Hendrix and Dylan hairstyle which was a way to protest again, but eccentric hairstyles are still the hallmark of musical artists.
