The 2013 hairstyle trends: Highlights

Highlights are definitely the 2013’s trend, and everyone is heading that way, especially stars. There are different styles of highlights such as, the “Ombré hair color”, the “Bronde” (mix of Brown and Blonde), the “Balayage” or even the “Platinum”.

The “Ombré hair color” is a great color option for brunettes. Indeed, it gives to the hairstyle some freshness and brightness. It makes a naturally sun-kissed look unlike conventional hair colors which can give a vulgar effect. See for yourself how it looks on Jessica Biel, an American actress and model.

The “Balayage” is a French hair coloring technique that enhances the highlight of a haircut and refers to the process of sweeping color onto hair with a paddle. This technic is perfect for blonde hair and will give a natural and sophisticated result. See the result on Reese Witherspoon, a famous American actress.

Another trendy hairstyle of this year is the “Platinum hair color”. If you are thinking about going platinum, there a few things that you might need to know:

  • Paler skin tones look better with the platinum color, so if you have a warm skin or if you tan easily, think twice.
  • Brittle and fragile hair won’t withstand the chemical process required.
  • Finally, dark hair will require several visits to your favorite hairstylist.
As you may have noticed, some of these color styles have a French name (“Balayage” or “Ombré”;). So who better than a French hairstylist to master these techniques. At Olivier Crespel Hair Design, you would get the hair color you’ve always wanted.

Clippers or Scissors?

In the world of hairstyle, it exists two ways to cut hair: clippers and scissors.

Clippers shape the haircut very roughly. Moreover, the use of clippers doesn't allow to shape precisely the haircut and the hairdresser has limited options. This tool also destroys the shape you used to have and the hair will regrow randomly.

However, the advantage of this instrument is its simplicity. Indeed its use doesn't require any qualification and it’s a good option for men’s short haircuts because it’s simple, fast and you are sure about the result.

Even if a lot of hairdressers use clippers, true hairstylists cut hair with scissors and a comb.In the hands of a great and qualified hairstylist, the possibilities are infinite. Why scissors are better than clippers?

Scissors’ haircut offers accuracy and workability. A good hairstylist will consider your request, your facial shape, your hair type and your style to give you the most harmonious hairstyle. He’ll be able to give you a very modern look which will grow with a consistent and even shape.

Olivier Crespel always uses scissors and practiced a lot during his French career. He is now really proficient and can tell you which haircut will be the best for you, considering the type of your hair, your facial shape, etc.
